The Do-Calculus Revisited
نویسنده
چکیده
The do-calculus was developed in 1995 to facilitate the identification of causal effects in non-parametric models. The completeness proofs of [Huang and Valtorta, 2006] and [Shpitser and Pearl, 2006] and the graphical criteria of [Tian and Shpitser, 2010] have laid this identification problem to rest. Recent explorations unveil the usefulness of the do-calculus in three additional areas: mediation analysis [Pearl, 2012], transportability [Pearl and Bareinboim, 2011] and metasynthesis. Meta-synthesis (freshly coined) is the task of fusing empirical results from several diverse studies, conducted on heterogeneous populations and under different conditions, so as to synthesize an estimate of a causal relation in some target environment, potentially different from those under study. The talk surveys these results with emphasis on the challenges posed by meta-synthesis. For background material, see 〈http://bayes.cs.ucla.edu/csl papers.html〉.

DDH Epidemiology Revisited: Do We Need New Strategies?
Background: Although the developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is well known to pediatric orthopedists, its etiology has still remained unknown and despite dedication of a vast majority of research, the results are still inadequate and confusing. The exact incidence of DDH and its relationship with known risk factors in Iran is still unknown. Here we represent the results of one year study o...
متن کاملThe Seal Calculus Revisited: Contextual Equivalence and Bisimilarity
We present a new version of the Seal Calculus, a calculus of mobile computation. We study observational congruence and bisimulation theory, and show how they are related.
متن کاملAn analytic study on the Euler-Lagrange equation arising in calculus of variations
The Euler-Lagrange equation plays an important role in the minimization problems of the calculus of variations. This paper employs the differential transformation method (DTM) for finding the solution of the Euler-Lagrange equation which arise from problems of calculus of variations. DTM provides an analytical solution in the form of an infinite power series with easily computable components. S...
متن کاملCall-by-Value Solvability, Revisited
In the call-by-value lambda-calculus solvable terms have been characterised by means of call-by-name reductions, which is disappointing and requires complex reasonings. We introduce the valuesubstitution lambda-calculus, a simple calculus borrowing ideas from Herbelin and Zimmerman’s call-by-value λCBV calculus and from Accattoli and Kesner’s substitution calculus λsub. In this new setting, we ...
متن کاملOn certain fractional calculus operators involving generalized Mittag-Leffler function
The object of this paper is to establish certain generalized fractional integration and differentiation involving generalized Mittag-Leffler function defined by Salim and Faraj [25]. The considered generalized fractional calculus operators contain the Appell's function $F_3$ [2, p.224] as kernel and are introduced by Saigo and Maeda [23]. The Marichev-Saigo-Maeda fractional calculus operators a...
